Founded in 2006, the Beijing International Music Competition (BJIMC) was established as a cultural project promoting classical music education and appreciation in China by bringing together musical masters and young musicians from all over the world.  With official approval from China 's Ministry of Culture, the competition has since been held twice: 2006 (flute) and 2009 (clarinet).  Over the course of these competitions, BJIMC has been honored by the presence of 40 leading musicians from over 10 countries and regions who have served on the competition's jury.  At the same time, more than 240 young and talented musicians from around the world have applied to participate in the competition.

Having become the eminent classical music competition in China, BJIMC has also been broadcast by CCTV (China 's national television network) and reported on by more than 50 media outlets.  In 2010, the BJIMC will feature the cello, and in 2011, the string quartet. It is BJIMC's hope to continue realizing its mission over time.

The Competition is Intended To
◎ Cultivate excellent potential to find the music excellent rookies, provide more space and broad prospects for the majority of young musicians,
◎ Hasten the birth of new works and a more comprehensive literacy and skills,
◎ Regulate competition, promote the healthy development of the cause of Music Competition,
◎ Promote cultural exchange between diverse music.
